Andrea Uravitch

The direction of my most recent works is creating environmental situations by making animals, insects, lizards, birds, frogs, and fish, and then combining them with my created plant life.

I hope to build a tableau that requires the observer to think about nature which ultimately is our responsibility.

As far as the processes I use to make the mixed-media sculptures, it depends on the subject. I find the techniques and materials that will best suit it.  I like to combine clay, crochet fiber, branches, paper, a new product called  “Wonderflex”, silk-screened fabric, hand  and sewing machine stitching, welded steel, and wire armatures.  One of the best compliments comes when someone doesn’t know what the whole piece is made out of.
