Yard Art

Each of the members of the New Image Artists was tasked to create works which interpret the intentionally broad theme of Yard Art. The most obvious way a fiber artist might look at “yard” would be yard goods and yard sticks. Yet these contemporary artists took the challenge to interpret the theme in creative ways that stretch the imagination of both the artists and the viewers. Some deliberately chose to embrace the opportunity by interpreting gardens and greenery and appreciation of nature, both abstract and realistic. Others took perhaps a wider look at the challenge and chose to define “yard” as a measurement, a destination, and back yard, and even prison yards.
